In the past, Katherine Duffy has appeared onstage with the Milwaukee Rep and the Skylight Music Theatre. This month she’s playing a dog in Door County. Yes, late this summer, the actress is starring as the title character in a production of A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia. It’s a cleverly- written comedy about a dog and her owner. Okay, not exactly the most liberated role for a woman, but she’s in esteemed company. When the comedy debuted Off-Broadway back in 1995, Sarah Jessica Parker played the lead, which is actually a tribute to pet-owner relations. It’s about those things shared between pets and the people they own. It’s a fun show which has met with a number of local productions over the years.
Duffy stars in a Stage Door Theatre Company production of the comedy at the Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay. James Valcq directs the show, which also features Alan Kopischke, Ryan Patrick Shaw and Milwaukee favorite Jacque Troy. Stage Door Theatre's production of Sylvia runs Aug. 27 - Sep. 12.
