This week on The Disclaimer, WMSE's weekly panel with Ryan Schleicher, Milwaukee Record editor Matt Wild and I, with summer concert season upon us, we're joined by one of the city's most seasoned promoters: Shank Hall's Peter Jest. He clears up some of the misconceptions concertgoers may have about how concert promotion works (including a few we've propagated on this show), talks about how the Milwaukee live-music market has changed over the years, explains the economics of the business, and details the role that luck and good timing have in the job, arguing that in general music promoters receive too much credit and too much blame. We also discuss how the city's clubs respond to Summerfest, and why a new arena probably won't do much to bring more top-tier concerts to the city.
