The Shepherd Express serves as a clearinghouse for all activities in the greater Milwaukee area that peacefully push back against discriminatory, reactionary or authoritarian actions and policies of the Donald Trump administration, as well as others who seek to thwart social justice. We will publicize and promote actions, demonstrations, planning meetings, teach-ins, party-building meetings, drinking-discussion get-togethers and any other actions that are directed toward fighting back to preserve our liberal democratic system.

Immigration and the City in the Trump Era @ UW-Milwaukee Union Fireside Lounge (2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.), 5:30-7 p.m.
Panelists including Voces de la Frontera executive director Christine Neumann-Ortiz and ACLU of Wisconsin attorney Karyn Rotker will discuss immigration policy, immigrants’ rights movements and refugee resettlement experiences in Milwaukee under the Trump administration. A reception will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Preying on the Poor: Criminal Justice as Revenue Racket @ UWM Bolton Hall (3210 N. Maryland Ave.), 2-3:30 p.m.
University of Minnesota public affairs professor Joe Soss will give a lecture on “the origins, operations and consequences of revenue-centered criminal justice practices that have grown dramatically in the U.S. since the 1990s.”

Addressing Lead Issues: A Milwaukee Focus @ United Way Johnson Controls Volunteer Center (200 W. Pleasant St.), 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
In this free public issues forum, experts who work on lead issues will speak about lead paint in homes and drinking water. Experts include Michael Stevenson, public health planner in the City of Milwaukee Health Department; Helen Meier, assistant professor of Epidemiology at UWM; and Carmen Reinmund, lead outreach program coordinator at Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers.
Do Black Lives Matter: The Hidden History Behind Today’s Headlines @ Parklawn Assembly of God (3725 N. Sherman Blvd.) 10-11:30 a.m.
In the last of three free presentations, Reggie Jackson, head griot of America’s Black Holocaust Museum, will discuss the history and current impacts of the devaluation of African American lives. This lecture will focus on devaluation in the justice system.
Peace Action Wisconsin: Stand for Peace @ the corner of North Avenue and Sherman Boulevard, noon-1 p.m.
Every Saturday from noon-1 p.m., concerned citizens join with Peace Action Wisconsin to protest war and, literally, “Stand for Peace.” Signs will be provided for those who need them. Protesters are encouraged to stick around for conversation and coffee afterward.

This special edition of Milwaukee’s monthly progressive political comedy show will be celebrating the defeat of (soon to be former) Republican Gov. Scott Walker. As always, the show will be hosted by comedian, satirist and progressive talk radio host Matthew Filipowicz. This month’s show also features Brian Green, Alecia Altstaetter, Greg Bach, Kristin Lytie, Alex Aceves and sketch comedy group The Accountants Of Homeland Security.

Erik Ljung’s documentary on the aftermath of Dontre Hamilton’s death at the hands of a Milwaukee police officer will be screened at the First Unitarian Society of Milwaukee. After the free screening, there will be a Q&A with Dontre’s mother, Maria Hamilton.

The Democratic Party of Milwaukee County will host a meeting and gathering to raise money for next year, as well as to get some much-needed relaxation after a particularly demanding election cycle.
