If you love live music, eating delicious food under the sun and bonfires in the sand, then NEWaukee’s Fifth Annual Urban Island Beach Party featuring Shepherd Express’ Street Eats Mobile Food Festival is one summer celebration you won’t want to miss.
This all-day, free party on Saturday, Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-11 p.m. at Lakeshore State Park, will feature more than 20 food trucks, a beer garden with live music, sunset yoga, kayaking and paddle boarding, wilderness skill instruction by naturalist Nick Gordon, a “Yappy Hour” hosted by the Wisconsin Humane Society, a cabana beach lounge, hula hoop and limbo contests and much more. Starting July 27, keep an eye out for pink flamingos around the city. If you find one of the 100 hidden inflatables and bring it to the party, you’ll receive a beer on the house, provided by Leinenkugel Brewing Company. Another way to snag a free brew is to ride your bike to the island—both the Oak Leaf and Hank Aaron State trails will take you to the park.
The Urban Island Beach Party is a fundraiser for the Friends of Lakeshore State Park, an organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the park that is launching a new campaign to build a visitor and education center on the 17-acre urban lakeside oasis. Lakeshore State Park (500 N. Harbor Drive) is located on Lake Michigan and the shores of Summerfest and Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin. A park sticker is not required.
