Hmmm. Goldman Sachs is hit with sanctions at the very moment that the Obama administration wants to institute "tough" regulations on Wall Street. Goldman Sachs, which has owned our government since before Nixon. Goldman Sachs, which lost just enough on the derivatives to look like they were also duped (even though they created the financial instrument, and no one knows exactly how much they made in commissions- outside of the mortgage-backed securities derivatives.) Goldman Sachs, the one firm that would be willing to take a small hit to help pass a set of bills that would create a bailout fund for Wall Street firms. It is difficult not to venture into conspiracy theory territory when discussing this. If your bookie knows that a sports star is injured, and you don't know that, is it the bookie's responsibilty to tell you about the injury before you bet on that team? Goldman Sachs was not obligated to tell irrationally exuberant people that smart people were betting against the housing bubble. Those people wouldn't have listened anyway. Goldman Sachs is guilty of something, but this is not it. Luckily, we can rest assured that Geithner, the tax cheat, is gearing up to "teach Wall Street a lesson".
