Milwaukee’s reputation as an especially boozy city is hard earned. Remember that pridefully when you wake up disoriented and dehydrated. A handful of upcoming events mean to solidify this reputation.
On Friday, May 8, the iconic Five O’Clock Steakhouse is hosting the second annual “One Night, Three Legends” beer dinner and benefit. In partnership with Lakefront and Sprecher Breweries, diners will feast upon four Five O’Clock courses that have been carefully paired with fine local brews. The event begins with beer-inspired cocktails and appetizers at 6:30 p.m. in The Alley Cat Lounge. Dinner and dessert feature beers to match. To assist in digestion, live music and dancing courtesy of Christopher's Project, three-time winner of "Showtime at The Apollo," follows dinner. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Wisconsin Humane Society. Tickets are $65 per person and can be reserved by calling 414-342-3553.
Speaking of Lakefront Brewery, the local beersmith recently announced the release of a new USDA-certified organic beer—Growing Power—in partnership with the Milwaukee-based non-profit Growing Power Inc. The hoppy pale ale, fermented with a specialty Belgian yeast strain, is only the most recent effort in the long-standing collaboration between the two companies, who “grew to see each other not only as business partners, but as social activists in bringing good food, grown and produced locally and sustainably, to our communities,” says Lakefront co-founder Russ Klisch. “It is hard to image anyone else in Milwaukee that shares our values more than Growing Power.” Growing Power can be found nationwide in six-packs and on tap.
