Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation PG-13
On the orders of CIA boss Alan Huntley (Alec Baldwin), Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his fellow IMF operatives are disbanded and absorbed into The Agency. Nevertheless, Ethan and his associates (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames) decide they must act on their own to take down a dangerous, shadowy organization known as the Syndicate. Hell bent on mass destruction, the Syndicate has been setting off violent attacks around the globe made to look like accidents. Whether hanging from the fuselage of a plane in flight, engaging in a high-speed motorcycle chase, or holding his breath underwater for three minutes, Cruise once again performs his own stunts in well-orchestrated action sequences that never seem to let up. (Lisa Miller)
Vacation R
Ed Helms plays Rusty Griswald, son of Chevy Chase’s iconic character from the four original Vacation films. Rusty plans to take the family to Walley World in hopes of spicing up his marriage (Christina Applegate plays Mrs. Griswald) while reconnecting with his two sons (the youngest played to caustic perfection by Steele Stebbins). The film delivers a few funny bits, but like many family road trip movies, it retreads outlandish situations that rarely hit their marks. One notable exception casts Chris Hemsworth and Leslie Mann as a swinging couple putting the moves on Rusty and his wife. (L.M.)
