I’m an animal lover. Have you guessed? From carrying for my own little furry babies and hosting regular fundraisers for various animal rescues to founding an animal-related charity (Ruthie’s Kennel Club), the pitter-patter of tiny paws is never far from me. One of the many reasons I love Milwaukee is that it’s loaded with animal rescues, shelters, pet-food pantries and a host of other services to care for Cream City’s hairy residents. (And by “hairy residents,” I’m not talking about the legs on the women of West Allis.)
Speaking of fuzzy obsessions, read the letter below from someone concerned over a lover’s attachment to a kitty (albeit a toy). You’ll also find a change-of-pace animal fundraiser in the list of weekly happening. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your furry friend (again, leave the Westside women of Wisconsin alone), and let’s read this edition of “Hear Me Out.”
Dear Ruthie,
I’ve been dating a girl for a few months. I like her and everything’s cool, except she insists on sleeping with a stuffed animal. It’s tiny and doesn’t take up any room, but it’s there. It’s a plush white cat and it stinks. Things took a turn last week when she brought it on a date with us. It was hidden in her purse. I confronted her and she admitted that she’s been bringing it with her wherever she goes for some time. Is this a problem?
—Pussy Galore
Dear Pussy,
I can see how your plushy-packing honey has you concerned. I’m no doctor so I’m not about to try to pick your girlfriend’s brain. That said, gently communicate your worries to her and take it from there. Give her time to react to your concerns. If she begins to rely too greatly on the toy or if its absence is causing anxiety or interfering with life in general, you might want to suggest she talk to a professional about it. After all, everyone likes a little pussy.
