Kevin Hardman, executive director of Milwaukee’s new bike-share Bublr Bikes, goes to Walters’ on North to unwind with a Riverwest Stein and an order of “the best wings around.” What does he like best about Walters’? “It’s a bar for everyone. No frills, no arrogance, cheap beer and solid bar food.” A regular since he relocated to Tosa from Chicago eight years ago, Hardman now brings his Bublr coworkers along as well. “We hit Walters’ with a team of volunteers and the board of directors after we spent three hours in July putting labels on the new Bublr Bikes.” (Selena Milewski)

As they do so often in their art, the married co-founders of Milwaukee’s most truly avant garde performance group spoke as a couple regarding their favorite drinking place: “We love the Brenner Brewing Company. It has an irresistible atmosphere, delicious beers and a fabulous owner/master brewer, Mike Brenner. If you’re lucky, you can catch him singing. Best of all, it’s next door to Theatre Gigante’s studio space. There’s nothing like a good, cool chaser after a day of rehearsals.” That studio space, new since November, is now home to the new Theatre Gigante Studio Series of small, low-cost performances presented as add-ons to the main stage season. Miss Cupcake Boutique Bakery owner Ashley Weber has two preferred establishments for unwinding after a day of creating delicious confections. “If I’m going chill and just want to hang out I’d say the Highbury in Bay View. If I’m going fancier or out with the ladies, I would say Elsa’s on the Park,” Weber says. She describes the Highbury as “the Cheers of all places. You can walk in there and you’re going to know somebody.” She appreciates the dynamic atmosphere and speaks highly of the Bloody Marys. Weber visits Elsa’s to chat with friends and business associates over dirty Gray Goose martinis and a plate of broccoli with soy-honey dipping sauce. (S.M.)
