Singer Jon Oliva cut his teeth in the long-running progressive heavy metal band Savatage, but that popular band was in many ways just a test run for his grand, prog-rock Christmas touring sensation, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which sells out many of the biggest venues in the world each holiday season. That’s not to say that Oliva has abandoned his touring rock-band roots, though. Since 2003 he’s been touring with his new band, Jon Oliva’s Pain, a hard-rock group that includes many Savatage favorites in its sets. Jon Oliva’s Pain plays an 8 p.m. show at Rooters in Waukesha tonight.

Nobody doubts the dedication one puts into shows. That is part of just about every theater company. As someone who attends lots of theater; there just seems to be new faces in just about every capacity. From the producing director, to the new faces of the actors and musicians. One sees someone well-known in theater open their own company. Actors often grow to be directors and open companies. I can take just about every company in town, and can say I remember when. This new company does NOISES OFF, and CABARET...and actors, musicians, etc. all seem like they just moved here from another town. While this is all good, people around town are only curious; as I stated in knowing more about the background, and funding of such a new group. It just amazes people in the arts....so much, so fast , so soon. In closing Shepherd did many blogs with Aaaron from ALCHEMIST. It gave alot about his background and goals.

There has been so much interesting information abo...

There has been so much interesting information about this new company in the Shepherd. Yet, unless I missed it; no actual background on the company. How are they funded? Are they non-profit, or do they pay taxes on admissions to their shows. They are not part of UPAF. Many local college students have been mentioned as being involved. Yet, where would people that age get the funding? This is not MICKEY and JUDY saying "lets put on a show". For over a year they were building the theater in the old warehouse space. Do they own the building? Shakespeare has no royaties, but musicals are extremely costly. Hiring musicians is costly. Are the actors paid professionals? Professional theater companies use paid actors, directors, tech. Is it community, amateur, is it professional? Many semi-professional actors, also work for free in local community shows. Is this company professional? Is the producer a businessman/or teacher now retired. Is this a college student/grad who won the lottery, or inherited millions? This company opened with big productions and musicals. Somehow there had to be major funding . We all have dreams, how did theirs become real! Talent?

It comes right down to the dedication of the people involved. Everyone in this company puts forth everything available to them so these shows can go off without a hitch.

Director Jimmy Dragolavich has an amazing core group of individuals dedicated to Carte Blanche Studios. Many actors double as costumers, set and prop artisans, musicians, lighing designers, graphic artist etc. Carte blance Studios and Artist Collective donating time and talent. A community yes, community theatre no. Professional and semi-professional company hoping to give other Milwaukee Theatre a run for there money.
