The Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s production of I Am My Own Wife, features more than 30 charactersa feat that is especially impressive since it only features one actor, Michael Gotch. He works overtime to tell the remarkable true story of German transvestite Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, a resilient individual who survived the brutality of World War II and the Third Reich. This difficult, one-man drama continues its run this evening with 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. performances.

I want to thank Russ Bickerstaff for reviewing...

I want to thank Russ Bickerstaff for reviewing our little play. The children were very excited to have a real theater review!
To clarify how this play came about. The areas the children wrote about in the play were not assigned by a teacher; rather they involved some of the subjects on which the children had chosen to write research papers. This year our class focused on American history, and students wrote about an important person, event, or ethnic group.
When the kids decided to write a play, they set it in DC, and working in duos, used the reports involving events that happened there to write the scenes. The process took 8 weeks from inception to performance.
The students, their parents who worked hard to make this play happen, and I are gratified that Mr. Bickerstaff enjoyed our play. I also want to thank Aaron Kopec, Erica Case, and Kirk Thomsen for the gift of their Alchemist Theater in which to perform our play.
