Pleasant Kafe (1600 N. Jackson St.) is an appealing coffee, wine and espresso bar providing a worthy second life for the corner shop that for a century was home to Dentice Brothers Famous Italian Sausages. Freshly refurbished in cream and coffee colors with outdoor tables and standing flower boxes along both streets, Pleasant Kafe brings a welcome feeling of European café life to this historic Italian East Side neighborhood. Inside, it’s airy and bright with counters and window-side tables. Service is warm and prices are low. Coffee is Valentine and bread and tiramisu are Sciortino’s. There are signature coffee drinks, beers, wines, exclusive wine cocktails and luscious quiches, burritos, sandwiches, soups, salads and pastries. It’s open Monday from 7 a.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday-Thursdays 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Friday from 7 a.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to midnight. Happy Hour with food and drink specials is 4-7 p.m. on weekdays.
