Welcome to the newest Shepherd blog, Brew City Booze! I'm going to be bringing you the latest news and information for all things alcohol-related in MKE. Anything is fair game: bars, bar food, beer events, cocktails, breweries, distilleries, festivals and local products and craft brews. We all know that alcohol is a big part of the culture here in Wisconsin, and I hope to be a resource for local booze lovers.
This week, the popular annual Downtown Dining Week starts June 4. Lots of restaurants have $12.50 lunch and $25 or $35 dinner specials all week, but the best part is that a number of them offer a drink (or multiple drinks!) as course options. If you're up for a full liquid lunch, Club Charlies is your best option. Your three courses can consist of a delicious bloody mary, a martini flight or flight of Point beers, and a chocolate mint martini called the Naughty Girl Scout for dessert. Unless you had a huge breakfast, I'd suggest ordering something to eat with this one.
Other restaurants offering drinks as part of their Downtown Dining menu include:
Carson's (dinner): Skyy cocktail, Lakefront beer or Californian wine
The Loaded Slate (lunch and dinner): Import draft beer or craft cocktail
Rock Bottom (lunch and dinner): House beer
Onesto (dinner): Glass of Cabernet/Merlot blend, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
Water Buffalo (dinner): Glass of Cabernet/Merlot blend, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
Swig (dinner): Glass of Cabernet/Merlot blend, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc
Smoke Shack (dinner): Memphis iced tea long island-style or a bourbon side car
Upcoming Boozy Events:
The much-anticipated launch of Minneapolis-based Surly Brewing in Wisconsin is happening this week! Try their beers at various events: June 6 at World of Beer Festival, Schwabenhof, Menomonee Falls; June 8 at Goodkind; June 8 at Milwaukee Ale House; June 8 at Story Hill BKC.
Miller Time Pub and Grill is hosting a five-course beer dinner June 10 with Lakefront Brewery co-founder Jim Klisch. Courses include clam chowder with cherrystone clams paired with Extended Play and halibut with andouille fingerling hash paired with Bridge Burner.
